The opening ceremony for the Shortsville Bark Park saw a great turnout! Many members of the community attended, along with officials from the Villages of Shortsville and Manchester, and Emily Schaertl and her family. Proceeding the ribbon cutting, remarks were given by Sharon Trimm, Mayor Fred Mink and Emily.
Fred highlighted the support of the local government and said they would keep use of the park free unless residents did not clean up after their pets.
Emily thanked the many donors and volunteers, sharing how the total cost was just above $6,000. Surrounding communities have budgeted and estimated the total cost of their dog parks to be over $70,000.
It was a beautiful day and the several dogs and their owners got to try out the new park. There were pets of all sizes and breeds attending on Saturday. It is a shining example to other communities that by working together much can be done without large financials burdens on the community and taxpayers.
